Dedicating William Trent’s Gravestone

A Friends of Old St . Michael’s Project

William Trent, the founder of Trenton, joined “The English Church” (St. Michael’s parish) when he first built his summer house and then moved to Trenton. When he died, no one took out a subscription to pay for a tombstone. When his wife died, twenty or so years later, she insisted she be buried in this small graveyard (now in Ewing Twp.) and presumably alongside her husband, William.

South Carolina grave stone cutter, David Gillespie, has proposed giving William Trent a proper stone in the exacting tradition of that time. He will be visiting Trenton in February, 2025 on family business (his wife is from Doylestown) when we hope to get the process underway: Process for commissioning a stone.
