St. Michael’s own “Go-Fund-Me”

Beginning with a kick-off gala reception to inaugurate the David Brearley Constitution Center, St. Michael’s will be undergoing a transformation into a hub for educational activities. This is a very broad mission. Conceived of in today’s terms as a “Go-fund-Me” project, it will be carried out over a ten-year period through multiple channels (three non-profits), and with different sorts of fund-raising “instruments.”

Enhancing the role of our church into a community “educational activities hub” will be accomplished around the CONCEPTUAL FOCUS of recreational education.

Recreational Education

Disney’s “Imagineers” created the EPCOT museum approach in 1982. This opened the door to recreational education, with the evolution of display approaches used by the top museums of today. St. Michael’s special place in history would suggest creating a number of traditional museum exhibits. Yet today’s affordable technologies allow St. Michael’s to leverage its history as an innovator for the future of small community educational hubs, in particular the many small struggling churches that are less historic than us.

Turning our church into an "educational activity hub" will clearly bring back the church to life, but it will no longer be simply that of a parish congregation. By promoting new exciting recreational uses of buildings such as ours through after-school programs, camps and clubs, our interactive displays and educational docents, family trips and visitors will constitute a renewal of neighborhood life to a broader community.
